Compensation
Is this a commission-based role?
Yes, by design. Every position we place is commission and performance based, with uncapped earning potential, plus performance bonuses, renewal income, and eligibility for medical, dental and prescription benefits. Unlike real estate or mortgage sales, you don’t have to find your own clients — the organizations we place with provide them. That means your time goes into helping people and enrolling clients, not prospecting friends and family. Your income reflects your effort, with no salary ceiling.
Compensation
I’ve never worked on commission before. Is it risky?
Commission always carries some risk, and it depends on you. But for most people the scariest part of commission is not knowing where the next client will come from. We only place with organizations that take that part off your plate: leads are provided, so you’re never cold-calling a phone book or working your social circle. They provide the training and the appointments; you provide the work ethic.
Compensation
How does the compensation structure work?
- Uncapped commissions: paid weekly, with no cap and regular performance bonuses.
- Renewal income: ongoing renewals on the business you write.
- No prospecting costs: leads are provided — no selling to friends, no cold calling, no paying for leads.
- Benefits: eligibility for medical, dental and prescription coverage.
We’ll walk you through the full structure in your interview before you commit to anything.
Part-Time
Is this a part-time position?
No. This is a full-time career path. Because the organizations we place with invest heavily in new representatives — training, software, benefits and leads — we look for people who are equally invested in their own success. The role offers real long-term flexibility, but it isn’t a side hustle. The first few months include licensing and learning your partner’s remote systems, and people who commit fully to their first 90 days build the strongest foundation.
Earn Your Freedom
What kind of time commitment is required?
Full-time, especially at the start. Many experienced representatives have schedules that would be impossible in a 9-to-5, but that flexibility is earned. You can’t learn this business part-time, even if you can eventually run it on your own schedule. Once you’ve mastered the skills and are hitting your goals, the role becomes far more flexible.
Not a Short-Term Side Gig
Can I do this as a side hustle?
No. To protect the quality of our partners’ leads and give you a real shot at your income goals, we don’t place part-time or side-hustle roles.
- The investment: your placement partner provides your training, benefits and clients from day one. In return, we ask for your full focus.
- The learning curve: remote sales is a skill, and it takes concentrated effort up front.
- The reward: after the initial training period, the role offers some of the best flexibility in the industry.
No Background Needed
Do I need a background in insurance or a license to apply?
Not at all. This is an entry-level professional role, and most of the representatives we place came from completely different industries. You legally need a state license to sell insurance, but not to apply. We place for character, work ethic and coachability, and we give you a clear path — including a discount code for your pre-licensing course — to get licensed and started as quickly as possible.
Step-by-Step
What is the process for getting started if I’m not licensed?
- The offer: you can receive a conditional placement offer based on your interview, whether or not you’re licensed yet.
- The course: you enroll in a pre-licensing course, using the discount code we provide to lower your startup cost.
- The exam: once you pass your state exam, you’re ready to start with the free leads and training your placement partner provides.
Professional Independence
Do you cover the cost of my state insurance license?
No. The organization we place you with pays for your training, software, E&O insurance and leads, and make benefits available to you — but your license is your own professional credential. You own it, and it goes wherever your career goes.
High-Value Partnership
Why do I pay for my own pre-licensing course and license?
It comes down to where the investment goes. Our placement partners put their money where it matters most for your day-to-day success: the leads, software and support that mean you never have to prospect your friends and family. We ask representatives to cover their own licensing as a sign of commitment to the profession.
Financial Maturity
Is there a startup cost?
Not if you’re already licensed. There are no agency fees, and Pinnacle never charges you for placement. Your placement partner covers your leads and E&O insurance and makes benefits available to you. Your only out-of-pocket cost is your state licensing and the pre-licensing course, and we provide a discount code for the course. We’ll go over licensing in detail during your follow-up Zoom interview. Because this is a financial services career, we look for candidates who are in a position to make that small initial investment in themselves.
When Can I Start Earning?
How soon can I expect to start earning?
You must be licensed before you can earn on a sale, but once your license is active, you can start earning right away. There’s no long, unpaid classroom period. You’ll work with a mentor from your first week, and training centers on live Zoom appointments so you learn by doing.
Entrepreneurial Advantage
Is this a standard W-2 employee position?
No. You’ll be placed as an independent contractor who is also a union member, eligible for medical, dental and prescription benefits. You get the support of a large organization — benefits, software and a steady lead flow — with the independence of running your own business. Independent contractors can often deduct business expenses such as a portion of a home office, internet and cell service; talk to a tax professional about your situation.
Professional Freedom
What is the legal nature of this role?
You’re placed as an independent professional. That structure is what allows a 100% remote role with real flexibility. You run your own business within a business: the autonomy of an entrepreneur, backed by a proven system. Your placement partner provides the training and the clients; you bring the professional dedication.
Tax Forms
Will I receive a W-2 or a 1099?
A 1099.
- Independent contractor: you manage your own schedule and work remotely, while also belonging to a union and being eligible for medical, dental and prescription benefits.
- Business deductions: contractors can often deduct business-related expenses that traditional employees can’t. Check with a tax professional.
- Full support: even as a contractor, you have your partner’s lead systems, a mentor and a benefits package behind you.
